M. Douglas Fiaui
Attorney M. Douglas Fiaui has been a member of the Hawaii State Bar Association and American Samoa Bar Association since 2007. A highly successful trial attorney and graduate of the prestigious Trial Lawyer’s College, Mr. Fiaui is a graduate of Punahou School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT.
Mr. Fiaui served as the Public Defender in American Samoa for 5 years (as well as 2 years as Deputy Public Defender). Twice appointed by the Governor and unanimously approved by the Legislature of American Samoa to have general charge and authority to direct and manage the operations of the Office of the Public Defender. He supervised four attorneys and five staff. Directed and d the legal representation of clients in all court appointed criminal, juvenile, guardian ad litem and mental competency cases. Directed and supervise criminal defense investigations conducted for office clients. Mr. Fiaui litigated pre-trial issues, conduct jury trials in felony criminal cases and appeals. He also provided training and mentoring to office attorneys, investigators and staff.
Prior to that he was the Legal Counsel to the Office of the Governor.
Mr. Fiaui possesses Certificates in Advanced Mediation, Basic Mediation and as a Criminal Defense Investigator. His vast legal experience has taken him to New Zealand, Fiji, American Samoa, New Caledonia and the Cook Islands.
